Shrimp was good. I prefer the spotted prawns more. The weight was supposed to be 4 pounds, when I weighed it at arrival it was 3 Lb 11 OZ.

Received my 1st order a week & few days ago on the day it was supposed to. With this order there was no notice as when to expect it. Order had to come in sometimes on 9/7/24 but not sure when. When he opened it it stunk horribly. I looked at the eBa mani and it did stink badly. We called Efish but had no one to talk to. Called again & left a message. Bottom line, we threw the shrimp away.

I used the shrimp in sushi and it was as sweet as advertised. The next night we made Italian style shrimp over pasta w head on. All of the shells and bodies made a killer bisque. These were a fun shrimp to work with. Thank you

I spent the greater part of a day cleaning and prepping this shrimp, at times wondering if it would be worth it.
WOW it sure was. I made stock and included the hoods from the head and then breaded and fried the bottom part of the head, very tasty, crunchy, not your standard fair, made a few sushi roll and lastly a sashimi dish with shiso leaves, orange, jalapeño and the ama ebi body,
So sweet a lovely way to begin a new year

I’ve eaten a lot of shrimp in my lifetime. Although I was unfamiliar with the variety of shrimp from Maui, it was without a doubt the BEST shrimp I have EVER eaten. I couldn’t believe how sweet it was! I’m saving all the heads and shells to make a seafood stock for bouillabaisse. Excellent shrimp, on a par with (and maybe slightly sweeter than) the e-fish spot prawns I've bought in the past. I shelled the shrimp and sliced them lengthwise and made a rich stock with the heads and shells, then made a Catalan-style arròs (rice) on the grill, adding the shrimp and some chopped scallion greens for color near the end of cooking. I seared a few whole shrimp to put on top. Couldn't have been better.

We had the Ama Ebi shrimp for the first time, and we loved them!
We had them ‘crudo’ with a drissle of EVOO and ground pepper.
We have NEVER had any disappointments when we order products from E-Fish.

The shrimp are delicious! They arrived super fresh and we enjoyed them both as sashimi and in a saute’ the first night, and both were delightful. The next day they were just as wonderful prepared in a bouillabaisse along with fresh Dungeness crab, also from E-Fish. Finally, as pictured with this review, a shrimp cocktail was enjoyed by boiling for 90 seconds followed by an ice bath chill and served with a ketchup, Mayo, wasabi & Cholula sauce. Delicious.
I’m quite happy with my purchase, specially because I waited too long the first time ama ebi was offered and missed out. However I probably won’t buy again. Although I can afford the price, there are alternatives that offer comparable taste and texture at significantly better prices. They are both also deep water species of the family Pleoticus, one marketed as Royal Reds, available from southeast US purveyors of fresh and frozen seafoods. The other is Argentine red shrimp from the same family, often available frozen in supermarkets. While the frozen is not going to be good as the Silva caught product, it is pretty tasty when properly cooked.
One other comment: the heads are very large on the Kauai ama ebi, so best to keep that in mind when ordering. I was mildly surprised when I realized the yield was likely little more than 50%. I made up for that somewhat by searing the heads and shells and using them to make stock.

We have been fortunate enough to enjoy lots of ama ebi from Devin's family on Kaua'i as we live on the island. We consider it the finest ingredient Kaua'i has to offer and better than shrimp we've had anywhere else , including at many Michelin starred restaurants around the world. (Big local pride!) This shrimp is incomparable - so sweet and tender and clean, and such a beautiful red color. Pictured here as part of a surf & turf meal for friends.
